Shobhita Dhulipala talks about her character in Adivi Sesh's Major

After giving the audience one of her career’s best performances in Made In Heaven , Shobhita Dhulipala proved herself to be one of her most talented actresses. 2022 is clearly an interesting year for Shobhita as she has several fascinating projects including Major where she will be seen making a special appearance. Apart from that, this week holds an important space in the heart of the actress. Talking about her special week, Sobhita Dhulipala expresses, " This week is indeed very special for me, not only is it my birthday week and I also have the release of Major on June 3rd while simultaneously prepping for two exciting projects that I can’t speak about it yet. Obi-Wan Kenobi and the narrative strategies of the Star Wars TV universe

Obi-Wan Kenobi , the third and latest Star Wars TV series , released its first couple of episodes on Disney+ Hotstar and it began on a specific strain of melancholia seen often in cowboy movies (the Star Wars movies are essentially space cowboy stories, after all) — the plight of the retired or exiled gunfighter and what happens when circumstances force him to pick up his weapons again. You can see this formula at its finest in Clint Eastwood’s 1992 classic Unforgiven and down the years, this template has been adapted into a variety of genre classics, including the John Wick series. Ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith (2005), we find a deflated Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) hiding out on the desert-planet Tattooine, where a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) is being looked after by his step-uncle Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton). A group of Jedi-hunters led by the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend) and his subordinate, the Third Sister (Moses Ingram) are prowling the cosmo

Anek director Anubhav Sinha: 'Hindi must be our national language, but it can’t be thrust on the whole nation'

Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha ’s latest work, the intriguing cryptic and complex Anek which takes us into the politics of the North East, has been greeted to mixed responses. Subhash K Jha caught up with the maverick director just before he left the country for a much-needed holiday. Anubhav, Anek has received mixed responses? Well, you liked it, and so did critics whose opinion I value. Even those who did not like it, I value their opinion too. I don’t know what went wrong. But a lot of the audience found the film incomprehensible. I have never had such polarized opinions on any of my films. People either love it or hate it. Nobody is just okay with it. How much research did you do before plunging into the film? Oh, plenty …lots and lots of research. I have to admit I didn’t know much about the politics in the region. But as I read up on their problems I grew aware of the situation, the isolation of the state from the rest of the country is very disturbing. The separatist leader Sanga

How Rihanna, Sonam Kapoor's trendsetting maternity fashion is revolutionising style game

Let’s begin by stating the obvious – we’re living in an era of revolutionary pregnancy fashion, and rightly so. From Rihanna ’s bump-forward and subverting maternity clothes to Sonam Kapoor ’s chic and trendsetting pregnancy style, celebrity mommies are flaunting their baby bumps remarkably.  That said, for the longest time pregnancy was seen as something that should be kept under the wraps, quite literally. Traditional maternity clothing reflected that, and was discreet, loose, and seemingly undesirable, however, that is not the norm anymore. Stylish, and powerful women in pop culture are endorsing a celebration of pregnancy, and of one’s body that goes through tumultuous changes in the nine months of childbearing. Rihanna’s much-celebrated pregnancy tour, which displayed belly-flaunting looks from Valentino, Christian Dior, and Gucci, led to a Vogue cover, a commemorating statue showcasing the baby bump at the Metropolitan Museum during the Met Gala, and a New York Times

Kuttavum Shikshayum movie review: Tension-ridden, unconventional police procedural cum travelogue

Language: Malayalam   In most popular police dramas across the world, glamorous-looking uniformed personnel dash about town in their smart attire, looking cool as they pose around with guns, solving crimes at lightning speed while also finding time for cracking repartee. Malayalam cinema in particular has for decades now been pre-occupied with police sagas in which a male protagonist’s shiny shoes, branded sunglasses and swag have starring roles, as do speed and over-the-top dialogues. Kuttavum Shikshayum (Crime and Punishment) is not glamorous, and firearms are confined to cameos in the plot. It is about the drudgery of police work, the painstaking probes, the laborious pursuit of tiny clues that sometimes lead somewhere but often nowhere, mistakes missed by a hair’s breadth and some that are not, and the psychological burdens borne.  Written by Sibi Thomas and Sreejith Divakaran, director Rajeev Ravi’s Kuttavum Shikshayum is, we are told, based on true events.   If you are

Laal Singh Chaddha trailer review: Aamir Khan's Indian adaptation of Forrest Gump might just work

So the chocolate becomes gol-gappas in Laal Singh Chaddha . In the original Forrest Gump Tom Hanks, who bears a passing resemblance to Aamir Khan, compares life to a box of chocolates: “You never know what you’re going to get.” Squeezing a gol-gappa into his mouth, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha  (LSC) drawls, “Life is like gol gappas . The stomach is filled but you can never have enough of it.” Well, burp to that. Though I like the chocolate truism better. From the look of it, LSC is an appetizing excursion into the life of a special child who grows up to become Aamir Khan in Raj Kumar Hirani’s PK: the same stiff walk, the same wide-eyed expression, the same annoying innocence, the insistent tautology. The same devotion to Kareena Kapoor that Aamir lavished on her in Hirani’s 3 Idiots is evident here. Aamir looks really in love, with life and with love. The long-awaited trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha comes to us with plenty of promises. If it is Aamir Khan it’s got to be spe

We caught up with the musician who spoke to us about being one of the few singers to attend Cannes, taking Assamese cinema to the global scale, wearing an Assamese shawl on the red carpet and more. Excerpts from the interview: You were a part of the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival to celebrate your home state. What do you think this

On Stranger Things and its connections to Stephen King and Steven Spielberg

In the fourth season of The Duffer Brothers’ Netflix horror/sci-fi show Stranger Things , we see Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) being bullied at her new high school in California — she has moved there with Joyce (Winona Ryder), Will (Noah Schnapp) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton). But every new town in Stranger Things comes with its own Mean Girls -style clique and here, Eleven is being bullied by her classmate Angela. In a poignant scene, we see her close to breaking point, even as laughing and jeering kids surround her in a circle, led by Angela. The backdrop to this scene is that at the end of the last season, Eleven had lost her telekinetic abilities. So when she finally tries to strike Angela with her powers, nothing happens and everybody bursts out laughing. This scene is an affectionate tribute to the classic 19070s Stephen King novel Carrie , where a telekinetic young girl is bullied by her classmates in a particularly ruthless way — and she responds by killing nearly every one of
